This Habit Will Spark Positive Change in Your Career

And I’m giving you a free tool that will make it simple!

You’ve probably heard it before: setting an intention for your efforts makes everything you do more powerful. I know it’s true for me! When I’m dedicated and consistent with setting an intention for each day, sometimes it even feels like my goals are accomplishing themselves. It’s almost magic.

I have a confession to make, though. Even though I know how powerful intention-setting can be, I still struggle to set aside time for it every day, if I don’t have a system in place to make it automatic.

About a dozen years ago, I came up with a simple way to build the habit of intention, and I was amazed at the positive chance I saw in my career – and my life. Today I’m sharing that secret with you, my beloved brainy business babes.

The Power of Intention

Lots and lots (and lots) has been said and written on this topic, so I’m not going to repeat what you’ve already heard. It’s a well-known fact that setting an intention has a profound impact on your life, especially when it comes to achieving your goals. I have experienced for myself the power of intention-setting, in the form of snagging promotions, landing amazing new jobs, and earning five-figure bonuses.

The Secret That Makes It Effortless

The biggest challenge for me in harnessing the power of intention was making it a daily habit. Anyone who knows me could testify that I am what might politely be called “morning-challenged.” Setting aside time in the morning for anything other than getting dressed and consuming caffeine felt like a pipe dream. That was a big missed opportunity for me, because setting an intention in the morning means that it’s working “behind the scenes” all day long.

And then I discovered: setting an intention can be easy. It doesn’t require me to plumb the depths of my soul every morning; I can draw inspiration from the wise words of others. So I started copying and pasting my favorite inspirational sayings – some specific to work, others more general – into a simple Word document. Every morning when I sat down at my desk (I set a reminder in my calendar), I followed the same simple three-step ritual:

  1. Open the daily intention file.
  2. Read the quote on the top of the list, and take a moment to reflect on how it might be relevant today.
  3. Cut and paste the quote to the end of the list.

And voila! I had created a rolling catalog of daily intentions to reflect on each morning. (Over the years, that humble Word document has blossomed to 40 pages long!) I was amazed to discover how often a situation later in the day echoed that morning’s quote. And even better, the sayings became so ingrained after a while that when a challenge arose, the right encouraging words would spring to mind automatically.

I’ve made it even easier for you. I created a daily intention tool to get you started, and pre-loaded it with two weeks’ worth of my personal favorite pearls of wisdom. Enter your email below, and you’ll be able to download it instantly for free! You’ll also get my weekly mood-boosting email, which I hope will bring a smile to your Monday morning. (Don’t worry, you can unsubscribe anytime if it’s not your thing.)

Make It Your Own

Once you’ve downloaded your daily intention starter document, it’s time for you to fill it with the words that resonate with you most deeply. When you come across a quote or image that touches your heart – in your reading, on Instagram or Pinterest, or wherever – paste or type it in at the end of the document. Don’t worry if your list isn’t very long at first, because revisiting the same inspiring thoughts every couple weeks or so will help cement them in your mind. If you’re like me, you’ll find that the words will feel different, and hold different meaning, on different days.

I bet you’ll be amazed, like I was, by the positive changes that emerge in your work (and your life) once you start this simple daily habit.
